Yad Ephraim is a wonderful organization a group of dedicated volunteers who assemble and distribute complete dinner meals during jewish holidays more than 2000 meals are given out on Shabbos and Yom Tov to family members and companions of patients in Maimonides Medical Center and the Metropolitan Jewish Geriatric Center.

Based on the lunar calendar, we learn the system through very nice visual editing work. It all starts with Shabbat. We learn the calculus of Jewish holy time and the important holidays, as opposed to those of lesser importance, including the well-known Hanukkah. Passover, Yom Kippur, these are the biggies and those feeding right into arch-rival Christianty’s own story.

Rosh Hashanah occurs on the first and second days of Tishri. In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means, literally, “head of the year” or “first of the year.” Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. This name is somewhat deceptive, because there is little similarity between Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days of the year.
