What do you think of Rick Perry using Music from a Homosexual Jewish man for his New Commercial?

For those who haven’t seen it, it’s about how Gays are allowed to be in the army. Yet Children can’t celebrate Christmas or something of the liking, the kicker is the music playing through the entire commercial was created by a Jewish homosexual man. Is that Poetic Justice or what ^_^

If you mean music in which the Shofar (horn) is blown then there are a few CD’s available.

One is Kol Nidre Service with Shofar.
I believe that there is a group also who call themselves Shofar.

Find Russian or German folk music. This is where typical jewish music comes from, and it sounds similar.

Unfortunately, whenever I post links here, the question doesn’t show up, but I’m listening to Sergei Prokofiev’s ”Overture on Hebrew Themes”, and am stunned.

I think it’s … mournful? It seems deep.

Since there were Jewish Sufis in the Middle East during the 13th and 14th centuries, I would assume so. The different religions became syncretized in some cases.

In Judaism the Niggun, or melody (translation) is an extremely significant aspect. Through the Nigun we can accomplish great heights and spiritual awakening. Different Chassidic groups have their own niggunim (plural), and even their own styles of niggunim. Breslov (alternately spelled Breslev) niggunim, for example, are usually more focused on awakening the heart purely and simply. Chabad niggunim, on the other hand (such as what you’ll find on the site I posted above), are more focused on an intellectual/contemplative journey, used as a tool to help one on his/her journey to rise to the depths of Heaven.

I’ve heard the most wonderful, lively songs at Jewish gatherings (from open ceremonies and on TV). There must be compilations of this music on CD’s and such for purchase. What are some titles of albums, and what are some search terms I can use to find albums?

"Klezmer" will, as well.

Try going to a judaica catalog, online, like thejewishsource.com. They have a music section.

Look for music played at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs.

If Hava Nagila and Tzena Tzena are on it, it’s probably a good starter CD.
