my boyfriend is jewish and I’m christian. How do I help him celebrate hanukkah? Gifts? What type of gifts?

we’ve been together for 10 months, so this is our first hanukkah… should i get him gifts? i asked him and he didn’t really make a big deal, he said him and his friends do something simple mostly for their kids. but i’m still wondering if it’s a nice gesture to give small meaningful gifts every night

nothing fancy
maybe go out for dinner afterwards

my brother converted to the jewish faith,married into a jewish family and so now I want to send him a present but dont want to send them something that doesent align with their faith. What would be the best type of … food basket ..etc.. great gift ideas for someone jewish?

If you google "kosher gift basket" there is an enormous selection.
You could also send a basket of fruits in their peels (like apples, pears, oranges) and nuts in their closed shells. These are always kosher because they are in their natural state.

Can I give a Jewish person alcohol as a gift?

I want to give one of my professors a gift for Hanukkah but more of an appreciation gift. I was thinking wine or scotch or something. I know that Jewish people drink, I’m just not sure what is appropriate in this case? He’s about 40 years old if that makes any difference at all.

Alcohol is an appropriate gift if they drink, but make sure the actual gift is kosher.

We have been living together for almost a year and he celebrates Hanukkah and I celebrate Christmas. How do Hanukkah gifts work? We are both adults. I have a few nice things in mind and was thinking about supplementing with some smaller things to come up with 8 gifts, or do only children receive 8 gifts? I’m not sure how to go about this. Do Jewish people usually open one gift per night?

You will both celebrate the eight days by lighting your menorah.
You don’t have to give any gifts or give them for one day.
The eight days are for kids to get a small something .

Will Santa still deliver gifts to me even though I am Jewish?

So my group of friends is doing secret santa and I ended up with my Jewish friend. We wanted the secret santa gifts to be more humorous, but also between the 15-20 dollars price range. He won’t be offended if it’s like a joking gift about Christmas and Judaism; I just can’t think of anything. Ideas?

What is a good thank you gift for a traditional Jewish surgeon?

The surgeon who performed my cancer surgery is Jewish (I can only assume from the shawl and scalp beanie [not sure how to spell that 'yameca'?]) and I would like to give him a gift to show my appreciation, but not something that would be offensive to his religious beliefs. Any serious suggestions welcome.

the gift for a surgeon , the typical way is present their flowers. and flowers will be suitable for this occasion. also u can take some cookies too

Giving gifts to non-Christian/Jewish people in December?

Being that Hanukkah and Christmas are in the same month, we just give gifts in December and have a winter theme wrapping paper and cards so you can make it a Christmas gift if you want, or not. We have some Muslim friends this year who I plan to give gifts to, except we missed Eid… so, is giving gifts in December to them anyway okay? How are you supposed to do that?

Hadassah: we celebrate Hanukkah and we give gifts. Don’t know what other countries do, but all of our Jewish friends do too. Perhaps this is influenced by "Canadian", Christian culture, I don’t know. But it is normal to give gifts for Hanukkah around here.

Maybe I’m just insensitive, but when my Muslim neighbors gave me a gift for one of their holidays, I said thank you even though I wasn’t taking part in that holiday. And when I was growing up and my best friend would give me something for Chinese New Year then I didn’t have a problem even though I didn’t celebrate it… and note she didn’t have a problem having something for Christmas. To me, it seems that if you are friends they will not be offended because you are giving gifts as part of your beliefs even if they don’t share those beliefs… I’d certainly never tell someone "I’m sorry, but I don’t celebrate that" but more "Oh, thank you. We don’t really celebrate that but I’m glad you remembered us." I’d expect the same.

BQ: Sometimes I have the mood for Christmas music in the summer. But typically I wait until the first week of December to put the Christmas CDs in the car. We have a good Christmas channel here that starts the week after Halloween, and the kids love that.
