I’d like to buy my boss, who is leaving, a gift of a scarf and gloves. Obviously I’m not talking about pigskin, but would bovine leather be a problem?
Bovine leather is not a problem and there is no prohibition on wearing such garments.
Just a note on what some others have said regarding pigskin. Others have stated that pigskin is OK- however, this is not universally true. Some Chareidim follow a stricter ruling that we are not allowed to derive benefit from a pig- and under that ruling not only would its meat be forbidden for consumption but so would other products derived from it such as leather. Obviously medical usage is allowed due to the law of pikuach nefesh.
I don’t speak hebrew, and there is a beautiful lyrics sung by a jew at a pub in one of the scenes.
